Sword and Laser, a podcast that is a fantasy/sci-fi book club of sorts, has published an interview with Brandon Sanderson, the author of the new Wheel of Time book.
In the 27 minute-long MP3, Sanderson talks about how he got into writing, some of the books he likes, and how he ended up writing The Gathering Storm.

Tries to be a book club? I’m confused. We have excellent conversations about our books with our listeners on our forums and on the website. Usually the shows are much more centered about the book discussion, but since we had the interview go so long, we had that be the main focus (and with good reason, I think).
Anyhow, thanks for the link and for checking out the interview.
Best,
Veronica

I don’t understand “tries” either. The Sword and Laser is the most successful online book club I’ve ever been a part of, because it has a winning combination of somehow managing to organize an international group of people to all read the same book at the same time, and then have a conversation about it. I’m not sure what else you could ask for. We all look forward to the podcast as a wrap-up, after we’ve been talking about the books on the forums on the way. Plus… swords! And lasers!

I meant “tries” in that being a podcast book club was your goal. Podcasting is an ongoing effort, is it not? I didn’t mean it to be a slight in any way, just a general statement that Sword and Laser aims to be a book club. I didn’t say that the podcast doesn’t succeed at it’s goal, for it certainly does.
I listen to S&L occasionally, and it’s pretty good. How could anything with Tom and Veronica not be? (Buzz Out Loud listener here…)
Sorry if that was a bit ambiguous, and keep up the good work. I’ll consider editing the post to make things a little clearer.

Ha! I think I know what you meant. But what’s funny is that we started as an online book club first then after several months started the podcast as an adjunct. But the podcast has sort of taken over the spotlight.
Thanks so much for the shout out!
