Garth Nix’s Old Kingdom series, which currently includes Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen, will be expanding from a trilogy to a 5-part series. The last book in the series was released bak in 2003, and Nix’s fans have likely been wanting more.
The next book, to be the fourth in the series, is currently titled Clariel: The Lost Abhorsen, though the title is not yet set in stone. The book will “probably” be released in 2010. The book after “should be out in 2011.”
From GarthNix.com:
I will be writing two more novels set in the Old Kingdom and Ancelstierre. They will be published by Allen & Unwin in Australia and by HarperCollins US and HarperCollins UK.
The first, probably out in 2010, will be Clariel: The Lost Abhorsen, which is the story of the young woman who eventually became Chlorr of the Mask. It takes place about 320 years before the events in Sabriel. The second is untitled, and is a sequel of sorts to Abhorsen, taking place several years later. It should be out in 2011.

2 more books? I guess that’s okay…
Abhorsen gave me a sense of finality, but I love this series so much; I hope they really do get published.

Abhorsen didn’t seem all that final to me. Oh well, I guess it’s wide open to interpretation.
I can’t wait for the books to come out. I think it’s safe to assume that they will be published, given Nix’s credentials as an author, but they very well may take longer than expected. Tamora Pierce’s Bloodhound is a prime example of the delays that happen in the publishing industry.
